Gelvandale Rugby Academy 7s Squad Gears Up for the 7s of Hope Rugby Tournament in Cape Town!

Excitement is in the air as the Gelvandale Rugby Academy 7s squad prepares to showcase their skills on one of the biggest stages in the sport – the 7s of Hope Rugby Tournament, hosted by the Hope Through Sports Foundation. This prestigious event is set to take place in Cape Town, bringing together 16 teams from across the globe for a weekend of action-packed rugby, camaraderie, and inspiration.

Our Journey to the Tournament

Representing the Eastern Cape, the Gelvan Academy 7s squad, comprising talented players aged 18 to 25, is gearing up to compete against formidable opponents. The tournament lineup features 12 teams from the Western Cape, 2 teams from Namibia, 1 team from Fiji, and, of course, us – the pride of Gelvandale!

This opportunity marks a significant milestone for our boys, who have worked tirelessly to reach this point. From grueling training sessions to perfecting their game strategies, the squad is determined to make their mark on this international stage.

The 7s of Hope Tournament is more than just a rugby event. Hosted by the Hope Through Sports Foundation, it emphasizes using sports as a tool to inspire and uplift communities. Each team brings their unique story, and the tournament is a celebration of talent, resilience, and the unifying spirit of rugby.

Our squad will be rubbing shoulders with some of the best teams from Namibia and the world-renowned Fijian rugby representatives, whose 7s legacy is legendary. It’s an incredible opportunity to gain experience, learn from diverse playing styles, and build lifelong connections.
